PRINCIPLES TO LIVE BY

  • Rees, Mel

Quick Overview

The Christian's hope does not rest upon the sandy foundation of feeling. Those who act from principle will behold the glory of God beyond the shadows, and rest upon the sure word of promise. (EGW) Learn how the principles of stewardship include many aspects of Christian Living--much more than the stewardship of money. Warning: The enemy has set a trap in his warfare against each of God's stewardship principles in this series.

Details

1. MASTER OR SLAVE?
The devil's trap is to make us slaves to our possessions. Learn how to find the greatest kind of freedom with its blessing.

2. NEW JOB?
The enemy would have us separate religion from from our employment with the inference that you must be in the "Lord's work" of the church because all other positions may be inferior.  Learn how religion was intended to be combined with our occupation, business, or position ever since the Garden Eden.

3. FEAR
Fear is common to birds and fish and animals, but only man has the intelligence to deal with dread, worry, anxiety, apprehension, and fright. Discover observations and aspects of fear and what it is--its dual nature and causes.  Learn the biblical principle for the Christian to handle fear in the battle against the devil's "fear trap."

4. PROCRASTINATION
Deliberation and procrastination are forms of delay.  Consider the stories found in God's word that reveal the ultimate cost of allowing the enemy to urge procrastination in the stewardship of time.

5. FRINGE AREA
How do you manage to overcome any of the "fringe areas" between you and God and recognize the devil's trap.  When we walk the fringe areas of right and wrong on the tight rope of life in dress, diet, amusement, music, etc. we often ask "What is wrong with it?"  Dangerous areas are revealed through the principles of the light, power, joy, and peace found in God's word.

6. THE DEMONSTRATION
In today's world of false advertising, it is wise to investigate the product.  What about the advertisement of a Christian's life and lifestyle?  Does it match the product? The banner of the Christian's consistent life will neutralize the enemy's trap that's at work in the Christian's example.

7. SUCCESS OR FAILURE
The devil's trap has two bates:  One trap is bated with financial prosperity so God is forgotten. He bates the other trap with adversity so man will blame God. Consider the principles of prosperity and adversity for the Christian.

8. ACCIDENTS OR MISTAKES
The principle is that you can't do anything about what happened, but you can concentrate on the future. If the devil can get us into the habit of fretting over everyday happenings, learn how he can seriously damage our trust and relationship with the Lord.

9. WHOSE IS IT?
Discover how covetousness is related to the stewardship principle of ownership. Consider the correct understanding of God's ownership of all that we have, and how we are to relate in copartnership with Him.

10. UNBELIEF
Blinded by unbelief was the 40 years'experience of the Israelites. There are many other examples of unbelief even though God's promises have never failed. Can we believe God today? "Help Thou my unbelief!"

11. THE RIGHT
As a Christian do you have to take abuse lying down or standing up? The stewardship principle is: No one has the right to bring disunity even though you have the right to feel the way you do.  Beware of the devil's trap of bitterness and revenge in the absence of a Christian's control of his reaction.

12. LISTENING
Listening is the conscious effort to hear and understand what is being said--an efficient reception of ideas. Consider suggested rules for real listening and acceptable communication.  "Take heed of how you hear" are the words of Jesus.  The enemy has also set a trap for the avenue of the soul to be corrupted.
