SIGNS OF APOSTASY--WINDS OF CHANGE
Carol Zarska
For a number of years, the church of God has been buffeted by forces that are pushing us toward changes which are modeled mainly from evangelical thinking and worship styles. What at first seemed innovative and refreshing seems now to have been leading us in a pathway which has blurred our unique identity and calling. This is both dangerous and deadly if we do not see where we are going and do not seek revival. Let's study together to recover the thrilling destiny of the final remnant!
"The alliances made by the Israelites with their heathen neighbors resulted in the loss of their identity as God's peculiar people. They became leavened by the evil practices of those with whom they formed forbidden alliances." EGW - 4BC 1155
1. God's Blueprint for the Remnant
Through the long years of sinful history, God has always had a faithful remnant. But it is the final remnant--the last generation of God's chosen ones who follow Jesus through the Day of Atonement cleansing who must represent Him fully and exemplify His character to a dying world. What does that look like according to the Bible? More importantly are we as a church and as individuals as familiar with that blueprint as we should be? You will be surprised and challenged as we study this exciting topic together!
2. Old Errors Revived
"There is nothing new under the sun," as the saying goes. And so the errors of the evil one appear and reappear throughout the history of the church. But as the centuries roll on, Satan becomes more clever at veiling his lies, making them more palatable for each generation. And so the bait is taken and the hook is swallowed by those who are unwary or uninformed. Remember, the foolish virgins went out and procured something they thought was the real oil. What are some of these counterfeits that are available today, and what are the basic truths that will fortify us to resist them?
3. Mysticism for Kids
In recent years, there has been a special effort made to keep our children and youth within the church. This, of course, is a worthy goal which every church member should support. However, the method has too often been to give them a Christianized version of the worldly music and entertainment to which they are accustomed. "Kidz Bop," "Worship Jamz," and "Adventures in Imagination," are examples of the "spiritual" fare offered to church-going children today. Most churches in Christendom have drifted into music and drama which are borrowed from worldly sources, but where are these sources coming from? Let's dig a little deeper into this topic.
4. The Kingdom Restored
Jesus told the disciples that the sign of the restoration of the kingdom of God was the authority to drive out demons, heal the sick, and raise the dead. How do you suppose this statement from Luke Chapter 9 should be interpreted for our generation?
